“GAINING ALTITUDE”
THE DEBUT ALBUM ALBUM - OUT NOW!
Co-written by Chris Guthrie and multi-instrumentalist, composer Steve Oliver. Produced by Steve Oliver.
From Chris:
“The heart of this project is a songwriting collaboration with a long time friend Steve Oliver, who produced and mixed the album and is literally the one man band that backs me up on all the tracks! Steve and I recorded this album in several sessions mostly during 2016. It was a great musical experience; the ideas really flowed and we captured a vibe that, in my opinion, falls somewhere in between Steely Dan and the Pat Metheny Group - two huge musical influences that both Steve and I share. Also, I’m a big fan of Steve’s music, which made this experience even more rewarding.”
I truly hope you enjoy listening to this album as much as I enjoyed making it!

CHRIS GUTHRIE PROJECT
CONTEMPORARY JAZZ
I’ve always had a hard time drawing lines around my musical tastes, which are, in a word, eclectic. “Gaining Altitude” is a blend of original contemporary jazz infused with rock, world beat, folk, and electronic themes.

REVIEWS
From Keys and Chords (online blog)
“A debut album with modern, funky and smooth edges, which certainly touched me.”

From Smooth & Soul (website)
“If you can win a musical partner like the shrewd multi-instrumentalist Steve Oliver, you’re already half way to a good show. However, Chris Guthrie has brought in his own genius on Gaining Altitude and that way his debut album is more than successful.”

From Jazz Moods (online radio station)
“Chris takes listeners on a journey with his keyboard to a smooth jazz place that is exciting and melodically controlled. Definitely the kind of groove you would want in your car as you hit the roads for work or play. ”

From Sundial Media Group (music marketing company)
“On the whole, Gaining Altitude is a unique work that sits comfortably as a jazz album. At times smooth - but containing enough risk that it should please fans of instrumental music in many styles, decades and subgenres. Highly recommended.”
